Holiday Coping Skills For Caregivers

The holidays are almost upon us, and life is about to get a lot more complicated. We are all very well acquainted with the stresses and strains, as well as the moments of joy that the holidays bring. Consider the unique situation that family caregivers find themselves in at this time of year. Whether caring for those with Alzheimers Disease and related types of dementia, or for those with other serious chronic illnesses, caregiving is already a heavy load that can quickly become unbearable.

This year, why not make an investment in time, and figure out how to make the most of the holidays, both for our loved ones, and for ourselves. This informative workshop will address such issues as self-support, setting priorities and balancing family versus individual needs. Learn about the importance of reminiscing about happy holiday memories, as well as creating new memories, to be treasured in the future. There will be plenty of time to share, brainstorm and problem-solve with other family caregivers. Our facilitator, Charline Zimmerman-Miller, LPCC-s, is an experienced counselor and educator, who also has her own personal experience as a caregiver.

The Lakewood Division of Aging will be offering this program at two different times, to accommodate the schedules of family caregivers. There will be a 3:00 PM session on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, and a 7 p.m. session on Thursday, November 19, 2015. This program will be held at the Lawther Center, 16024 Madison Ave. Lakewood, Ohio.  Transportation to the 3 p.m. program on November 17th will be available for Lakewood seniors. Please call the Activities Office at 216-529-5005 for more information on this or any other Division of Aging program.
