Three Students Attend RYLA

Three students from Lakewood and Rocky River high schools attended the District 6630 RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) conference at Baldwin Wallace University June 11-15.

The award is presented by the Rotary Club of Lakewood and Rocky River to students who have shown a desire to be stronger leaders. The program enhances students’ leadership skills through lectures, hands-on participation and recreation.

April Feeney (Lutheran West), Olivia Nagy (Lakewood), and Riley Robinette (Rocky River) were the award recipients. All will be seniors at their high schools this fall.

RYLA is a program coordinated by Rotary clubs around the globe. Each year, thousands of young people participate.

Events include presentations, activities, and workshops that cover a variety of topics, including: Leadership fundamentals and ethics, communication skills, problem solving and conflict management, and community and global citizenship.

There is a 10:1 student to staff ratio and a professional conference director on campus the entire week. The Rotary club funds the entire cost of the program which includes room, board, staff fees, supplies, and recreational costs.
