Businesses And Projects, Many Things Are Getting Done In Ward One

Tess Neff, Lakewood City Council Ward 1

Immigrant Son Brewery at 18120 Sloane Ave. is opening soon! The owner, Andrew Revy told me they are finishing the construction, they have started brewing, and canning will begin at the end of July. A fun fact Revy told me is there will be a beer named in honor of Zydrunas Ilgauskas (“Z”), a former basketball player with the Cleveland Cavaliers. All you IPA lovers can look forward to trying PerZverence, which will be available in a can or draft. Z himself is an immigrant from Lithuania and has chosen to make Lakewood his home. The full-service brew pub will have an executive chef with a food menu that consists of old world meets the new world cuisine. Need a private room for a gathering or event? Revy has you covered, and he stated the space will be great.

Please welcome new business, Ceram Works located at 17303 Detroit Ave., and opened in June. I attended the grand opening on June 19 and had the pleasure to meet the owners Julian and Maran Rogers. The venue is wonderfully spacious with lots of natural light that the community can enjoy. The couple offer canvas and ceramic painting to create a unique gift with your personal touch. There is also a private room to gather with family and friends.

Although it looks like a mess, the Detroit-Sloane project once completed will be a beautiful gateway to our western border. The sewer improvements construction continues, and the water main work is completed. Progress was delayed a few weeks due to some unexpected additional work and the wet weather. Phase I work will begin soon which includes paving the north side of the roadway and traffic will be shifted to the south side with a single lane of traffic in each direction. Approximately 45 days later, Phase II pavement work will be performed on the south side of the roadway including adding the multi-purpose trail. Traffic will be shifted to the north side during the 45-day pavement time frame.

Lauderdale Ave. residents are getting a full dose of construction on their street. The project involves a major rehabilitation of the watermain, sewer, and pavement on the very narrow street. Residents have experienced water shut off and trickling water. Thank you, Lauderdale community, for your patience and enduring the inconveniences during the construction.

You may have noticed “For Lease” signs displayed at the Trinity Church at 1375 W. Clifton. The property transferred to Scalish Construction, a Lakewood based business, in June. All Architectural Board of Review and Planning Commission approvals were granted for the mixed-use structure. Currently, Scalish is seeking to lease the property which will require building permits before any construction can begin.

Ward 1 residents and the entire community have a lot to look forward to in improvements, food, arts, activities and beautification.
